Jennifer Lawrence States Discussing Donald Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ That’s Ripping the Country Apart
Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she finds it inappropriate fitting to comment publicly regarding the Trump administration, fearing it could intensify divisive discussions and further divisions throughout the United States.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Notes Jennifer Lawrence
Speaking with media, she shared, “During the first Trump administration, I felt like I was moving hastily like a chicken with my head cut off. But it’s become clear, election after election, Hollywood stars have no real impact at all on electoral choices.”
Lawrence added, “So then what am I doing? I’m just voicing my thoughts on something that’s going to worsen tensions dividing the nation apart.”
Shifting Views
Lawrence has previously been open about voting for both right and leftwing candidates throughout her life. Growing up with Republican parents in her home state, she supported John McCain in the 2008 election prior to switching to the left-leaning politics and explaining she understood during the Obama era that voting Republican was voting against her own rights as a female citizen.
Previous Comments
In 2015, she commented that Trump winning the presidency might signal “a disaster” and endorsed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. During the most recent election, she lent her support to Kamala Harris, “because I think she’s an amazing candidate and I know that she will take all necessary steps to safeguard abortion access.”
Industry Position
Lawrence was supported by many in the entertainment industry in her disapproval of the former president as a returning figure, but the minimal impact stars have over the voting intentions was underscored by the outcome.
“The second term seems distinct,” noted Lawrence of his administration. “Since he said what he was going to do. We were aware of his actions for four years. He was explicit. And voters made that decision.”
Current Projects
Jennifer Lawrence is highlighting the drama, Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she stars as a young mom who faces challenges with her mental health in a remote area. At a interview session for the project in the film festival, Lawrence spoke about Israel’s bombings in Gaza: “I feel fear. It’s mortifying. What’s happening is no less than a genocide and it’s terrible.”
Additional Thoughts
Lawrence added by stating that she was saddened by “the hostility in the discourse of American politics currently and how that is going to be commonplace to the children now. It’s going to be typical to them that politicians lie.”
She attempted to refocus anger about the situation to decision-makers rather than actors and artists. “Stay focused on the people in charge,” she advised, which was interpreted as a reference to the declaration signed by numerous entertainment industry figures to avoid specific industry bodies.
Individual Insights
The actor, who won an Oscar at a young age for her performance in her breakout movie, is receiving praise for her performance in her latest project. Even though the director has rejected the story being seen as one of maternal mental health issues and psychosis, Lawrence shared that she connected with aspects of her role’s experience after the birth of her second son, not long after filming concluded.
“I felt anxiety regarding my baby,” she said, “just picturing every worst-case scenario, and then doubting everything that I was trying. I was already in therapy, but I started taking a drug called Zurzuvae and I took it for two weeks and it really helped.”
Career Moments
Lawrence also discussed regarding the empowering aspect of shooting revealing sequences in the film while she was some months pregnant and limited physically.
“There’s a freedom,” she commented, regarding the need to abandon insecurities. “Truly, I sometimes think where I’m like, What technically are the differences between my work and that profession? But it isn’t a major concern.”
