One senior officer who rushed to the assistance of a fellow officer that was assaulted by a blade-wielder has been awarded the Royal Recognition for Courage.

Sgt Tim Ansell grappled with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown following he pressed a weapon to the neck of his partner Sergeant Marc Foster.

Brown began the violence as the policemen and their third officer, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a motorist following a road collision in Whalley Range in July 2023.

Brown knifed and cut the two Sgt Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft stunned him with a electric weapon.
